I had my friend's band Venus Infers enter a Battle of the Bands held by Mary-kate and Ashley, and they just found out today that they made it to the final 10. Voting started on the April 9th, so all the other bands have been having their friends and fans vote.
I'd love for them to win so that they could have some extra exposure of their music on the MK&A website.
Hear their music, and go here to vote for Venus Infers if you like them. I recommend listening to "The Review" and "Vanilla Is" |

Yesterday night, Davis, Ben, and I saw Coldplay at the Troubadour! KROQ announced yesterday that Coldplay tickets were going on sale that afternoon for a showing that same night--only 150 would be sold at $10 a ticket. After work, we decided on whim to drive to LA to try our luck ... when we got there at 9pm, we were told that the tickets went on sale at 5pm.. people had been lining up since 8am...and they sold out at 6pm! Nooooo...so 2 hours in traffic and a $7 parking fee later, we remained hopeful that somehow we would get in.. we didn't know how, but we were determined to hear coldplay
scalpers were selling the tickets at $100-250 a piece... so that wasn't an option (afterall..we are poor students). after waiting around in front of the venue for a few hours, a small community developed around us .. a hip musician who had a knack for spotting b-list celebrities who had moved from Kansas to pursue his band, an even hipper aspiring screenwriter who had moved from Ohio to become a writer, and a peppy girl from westwood. by 11, the mob had died down to just 10 of us ...Coldplay was suppose to come on soon, so we were hoping to at least hear them from the door. all of a sudden, two men in black suits appeared and gave a few of us the much-saught-after sparkly glittery coldplay admission wristbands----we were in..and we didn't even have to pay for it-----
it was surreal.. although I had been hopeful, I didn't really think we were going to get in.. i had planned on heading home pleased to have just met some cool kids while waiting in line! inside, we saw robbie williams, tara from desperate housewives, the guy from starsailor, a guy from SNL, and a porn star who looked like JLO ...the place was infested with b-list celebs!
we watched the live show from the front of the stage ... I felt like I was watching it on TV instead of actually experiencing it live .. here's the setlist:
square one in my place white shadows scientist maps (cover of yeahyeahyeah) daylight sparks a message clocks what if (encore) politik yellow speed of sound
what a fab night!
"according to kroq, due to the excessive amount of people and the chaos it was causing on santa monica blvd. as of 3:45pm the line that had been forming outside the troubadour was cut off and only 100-150 people got to buy tickets. the radio ran out of tickets to giveaway."
"For those of you asking yourselves why you don't live in LA - this show will be damn near impossible to get into, even for us locals. Other radio stations have stated how the line at the Troubadour has been forming since the news broke out - lucky bastards!"
"well they didn't play maps completely, i think after either.. the scientist or clocks (i forget which one) chris was on the piano and started singing "theeeeeeey don't love you like i love you" while he was looking at gwyn on the balcony, it was soo cute, she looked all happy."Current Mood: happy

I have a rambunctious 3 month old terrier/poodle mix who needs friends to socialize and play with. She is 3 lbs, up to date on shots, spayed, and likes to chase, run in circles, mouth, and sniff. Billie loves meeting new people, but is still pretty timid around new dogs.
We haven't seen her around many dogs yet but want to make sure she gets well socialized with other well-mannered friendly dogs.
We have a fenced yard located in Orange County, California nearby the Irvine Dog Park and Petco off of Culver. We can host if you want to schedule a play date. I am available most evenings, weekends, and during the afternoon on Wednesdays. Contact me and we can discuss. Thanks!

I saw Interpol tonight again! Davis couldn't go see them tonight so Morgan, a close friend of Davis, agreed to go with me to Hollywood to see them on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. They played: Obstacle1 PDA Roland Stella Say Hello to the Angels
I was up front in front of Carlos with my new friend Cinnie who I met last night at Pepsi Smash. She's totally cute, but I have no idea why she refers to me as her "new short viet friend" even though I tower over her when she takes off her 5 inch heels...
After the show, we grabbed some grub with Davis who was looking cute, as usual.... I called him later that night, but he fell asleep on the phone .. .I must have too, because my phone was out of batteries when I woke up this morning.. so I got to end my night wonderfully.
All in all, a lovely night.Current Mood: tired Current Music: 7 Angels 7 Plagues - Silent Deaths Crowded Lives

» Game / Hogues
Today Davis, Ben, Morgan, Deanna, and Mike went to Calstate Long Beach to watch the Clippers/Lakers game. Six hours of sitting in those tiny seats takes a lot out of a person. We were all (well, at least Davis and I) exhausted by the time we left but managed to salvage enough energy to make it through a few bands at Hogue Barmichaels afterwards.

All good shows, but 4 shows within 7 days .. this is getting out of hand. I need to cut back
Went with Karla and Davis to see performance art in Santa Monica .. then to Club Synthetic for the Faint's remix cd release party .. hopefully we'll have enough energy after the Faint and the Cursive show this week to go to Club Beat it next weekend

Definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to. I didn't expect Death Cab to be so good ...
I'm trying to figure out friendster.com .. erg, who's on it and what's your email?

I went with Kelly to see A Static Lullaby at the Palace last night .. Senses Fail was great, but it went downhill from there. A Static Lullaby was good, the Movielife was ..okay, and Finch was disappointing. The guy has a great voice, but that's as much as I will say. One of the guys from Senses Fail was wearing the same shirt as me that night ..

Last night I went bowling for the saddle-creek forum meet (7 girls, 4 guys.. all cute), cuddled with eight other people on a sofa at the same time while listening to good music, almost made out with a girl-- so much for the dry spell that I was complaining about yesterday afternoon, and going to the Finch show tonight.

Thanks to my friend's boyfrend's friends, we were an hour late to the Reggie and the Full Effect cd release party, argh. By the time we got there, it was over. ..and even worse, a fat girl in buddy holly glasses cut in front of me in line and then grabbed the last reggie poster from me, grrrrrrrrrrr. "oh, you want this? I'll give it to ya if you pay me. HA HA!"
I spent most of today looking at art. I love the Getty museum...

» show: RIlo Kiley
A few hours before the show, Bryan (who I met through Jana) asks me if I want to go to the sold out RIlo Kiley show with him.. he has an extra ticket. Yeah, of course I want to go. We went with his friends .. and wow, Bryan and Mikey's too cute for words.
Mayday was the worst band that I've ever seen, no joke. Maybe I'm just biased cause I'm a violinist, but their violinist is horrible. It pained me to listen to her play, erg.. I was embarrassed for this girl. Mikey asked me if something was wrong .. I guess he noticed me cringing and frowning during their set, haha. Even the worst violinist in the orchestra I played in for three years would have been an improvement ....
The Good Life was better than I thought they'd be .. Rilo Kiley was amazing. The show would have been even better if the little girls in front of us were not there.
girl 1: OMG OMG OMG DID YOU SEE THAT GUY BEHIND THAT ASIAN GIRL..HE IS SO FUCKING HOT!!!!!! girl2: WHAT GUY?? ?WHAT GUY??? girl1: THE ONE WITH THE BLACK SHIRT AND KIND OF LONG HAIR girl2: WHICH ONE??????????? girl1: RIGHT BEHIND THE ASIAN GIRL NEXT TO US.. OMG OMG SO HOT OMG OMG (this x20 .. imagine listening to that for two hours) jacy to mike: I think those girls want you... either you, bryan, or jason.. I'm not sure mike: tell them to stop talking about your boyfriend. they're probably talking about bryan. he'd a stud. jacy: pssssh bryan, those girls want you. bryan: (amused) really..where, which girls jacy: the 15 year old girls in front of me bryan: oh............ok.

» show: Coheed
So I ended up with two extra tickets to the Coheed and Cambria show. I gave one to Mike and the other to Diana..
Hopesfall put on a good show, Jonah was just as sweet as I thought he'd be, and Coheed was okay. Their set was boring except for the few instances when Claudio used his teeth and then later a drumstick to play his guitar. It was difficult to focus on the music during the Coheed set, cause I was too busy trying not to drown or suffocate in the crowd. Maybe standing front and center wasn't such a good idea....

» haircut #2
It's about time that I chopped off my hair. I'm still trying to figure out the difference between all these products ..pomade, wax, weird goo, etc.. it's hard to tell from the pic, but it's a thick red weave with a thin blond weave on top. I might tint the blond to a lighter red so that I have two tones of red with black instead of blond/red/black..
The Coheed show is tomorrow .. I can't wait

» show: Melee
Mike offered his extra ticket to the sold out Melee show to me at the last minute .. I only wanted to go to see HelloGoodbye. Argh, Melee fans are so annoying. There were a bunch of fat 16 year old girls in tacky pinstriped shirts in front of us passing notes to some girl who was asking bands to sign her boobs. "fucking asians are trying to hump us!" Eh..
Addison was good, and Hellogoodbye put on a fun show. They had a soccer theme going on . .how cute. If you haven't heard Hellogoodbye yet, check them out! If Ozma and Self had a lovechild, Hellogoodbye would be it .. except cuter.

» show: Cursive
Up until Wednesday, I had no one to go to the Cursive show with.. I was talking to someone from the saddle creek messageboard, and he mentioned that one of his friends from Newport was going too and gave me her sn. Hmm well, where to begin..
So I ended up going to the show with one of the coolest, most sweetest girls ever. She's going to the Coheed show, so I'll get to see her again for sure. I saw a guy sitting on the stairs .. staring at me while I was walking by. I later learned that it was Conor Oberst.
The lead singer of The Velvet Teen has a beautiful voice-- I can't wait to see them again with Death Cab for Cutie in March. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I never noticed that Cursive has a cello player. They kicked ass, but they would have kicked more ass if they had decided to play my two favorite songs: "lament of pretty baby" and "the great decay," boo.
Oh, I was hit on at the show, neat. No one ever approaches me at shows.. oh yeah, I ran into Keleigh from the Piebald show and Josh from notpopular.com at the show too.

» Show: Piebald
I found people to go with me to the Piebald show at the last minute, yay. Unfortunately, roitpham couldn't make it so Johnny invited one of his friends, Keleigh, to go instead. She has super cute hair and even caught me when I tripped in the parking lot .. I invited her to go with us to the Coheed and Cambria show on Valentines Day.
I don't understand why My Chemical Romance opened before Noise Ratchet and Minus the Bear-- MCR is way better than those other two bands. If I didn't have class tonight, I'd definitely go see them again tonight at USC, argh. Damn my evening classes. Noise Ratchet was okay, Minus the Bear was decent, and Piebald was fun-- That's saying a lot, cause I'm not big on Piebald.
Yesterday night, I found out that someone in my linguistics study group is the same person who use to talk to me online last fall and neither of us realized that we already knew each other, weird.
I also found out this morning that someone in Hobbiton has a crush on me.. interesting.
